John appears to have broken away from his parents' preference for Plympton St Maurice and moved over to Plympton St Mary, presumably because this was his wife's church.
The information on William Michelmore's ancestry was obtained from a family tree at FamilySearch.
It is not known why Thomas's family used the surname MICHELMORE in 1859.
A long obituary of Thomas Michelmore DARTON, published in the Tuapeka Times on 26Jun1909, is available here.
Much of the information on John Mitchelmore, John James and Geoffrey Mitchelmore was obtained from Trove.
The 1823 emigration date comes from John's 1907 obituary; it seems more likely he emigrated somewhat later, after his brother Thomas was born.

The first child of James and Mary ROACH was named Mary Ann Mitchelmore WHITE [Tree 900], apparently in Thomas's honour.
HMS Bulwark was a 74-gun ship of the line built in 1807.
A sergeant at mace was the mayor’s personal attendant and mace-carrier.
In relation to average earnings, Thomas's estate would have been equivalent to about £70,000 today. |
