SOUTHERN SOUTH HAMS
Tree 11. Descendants of Thomas MUCHEMORE
(Thurlestone 174x)
The earliest members of this tree were born and lived in the Bigbury-Ringmore area of South Devon. DNA results suggest that this tree has an origin quite different from any other tree.
In the 19th century, this tree gradually spread out to Brixham, Ilsington and Plymouth. The Brixham branch adopted the surname spelling MITCHMORE, the only case where this variant is still extant in England. (The only other known MITCHMOREs are in Texas.) A narrative history of this MITCHMORE family is available here.
The first members of this tree to leave Devon were John, who moved to Winchester in the 1860s, and his brother William Henry, who moved to London at about the same time. Alfred Edward moved to the London area in the 1890s. The only known emigrant was Ronald Benjamin, who moved to Australia with his family in 1958.

The date of death on Elizabeth's memorial is not clear.
