One of the marriage records refers to Elizabeth [Tree 05]. |

It is not clear how a yeoman could have become a pauper within two years of marrying.
Since there was only one Michael M*CH*MORE living in Devon around this time, we have to assume that the clerk made an error when writing the name of Mary’s mother in the baptism register.
Richard NUNN was buried 27Jun1790 Blackawton. |

Chaffey's Lock is No. 37 on the Rideau Canal, which runs between Ottawa and Kingston ON. The canal was built as a military supply route, but after it was opened in 1832 it also provided a strong stimulus to immigration. The Rideau Canal was built by the Royal Engineers, a sister corps to the Sappers and Miners, and it is possible William travelled to Ontario with them. Brewers Mills also lies on the Rideau Canal.
A map showing the places where William and most of his descendants lived is available here.

Jane was a sister of Elizabeth PROWSE, who married John [Tree 05] in Slapton four years earlier.
Polly's baptism record apparently confuses her father with her mother's brother-in-law John [Tree 05].
Polly
In relation to average earnings, Polly's estate would have been equivalent to about £350,000 today.
Elizabeth signed her name MICHELMORE in the marriage register. Witness John Thomas MICHELMORE may have been her mother's brother-in-law John.
It is not known if Sarah’s and Eliza’s husbands were related.

It appears that William was counted twice in the 1880 census. Willard's Hotel still exists in Washington DC (near the White House): The surmid Elder derives from her great great grandfather Rev Elder, an Episcopalian minister from Edinburgh who preached sedition from the pulpit during the American Revolutionary war.
